Big Read

I was exhausted but happy after the Celebrity Read on Saturday, Oct. 20 in the Community Room of the new LMC Library. The celebrity readers (Lynn Carey of CC Times, Jade Hernandez of KTVU News, Leanne Holbrook, local author of children’s books, Eddie Hart Sr, Olympic Gold Medalist, Dan Smit, Superintendent of Liberty High School District, Joanne Cookman, President of the Board,   4CD, Peter Garcia, LMC President, Jeff Huffaker, Contra Costa Superior Court Commissioner, Nicole Payton, local author and LMC student, Ann Cain, County Librarian, Tasia and Jaclyn, Golden State Warrior cheerleaders, Aaron Baker, Pittsburg Police Chief, and Laurie Huffman, LMC instructor and Teacher of the Year, 2006) were awesome and totally inspiring. The audience had a blast.

The writing workshop afterwards was led by Leanne Holbrook and had a dozen attendees. We are on our way to achieving great success with the East County Big Read. Make sure to go over the calendar of events in my previous post and mark your calendar for book discussions, movie screenings, theatrical performances, panel discussion on Nov. 14 and the grand finale on Nov. 15.

I’m sorry I haven’t posted to this site for a while–been busy preparing for the Big Read and it is happening now! This Saturday, Oct. 20 in the Community Room of the new LMC Library, we have a group of local celebrities read excerpts from the book followed by a writing workshop to prepare interested entrants for the writing contest.
